Our Latest Addition.....

Things have been so busy lately I just haven't had time to update the blog. I usually do it as a way of clearing my mind during my lunch break or right after I get to work to kind of get me up and running for the day. But lately, I've been so busy that I've had several days where I haven't left my chair from the time I come in around 7am until I leave around 4:30pm. The end of our fiscal year always brings with it challenges, but this year has been especially busy.
Anyway, on to our big news. We have a new addition to our.... family?, collection?, home?. Yes we've gotten... ANOTHER CAR! 1 week ago now, a big truck came a delivered a not-so-new 1969 Corvette - Brian's Dream Car. He was like a little kid at Christmas waiting for it to arrive. Unfortunately, he had to spend last weekend in Birmingham doing his weekend camp for the Air National Guard, and he didn't get to play with it. But every night this week he's gone out to the garage to play with it for a few and sit in it. He is very excited and very happy to finally have the one thing he's always wanted (except for me of course!). He has wanted an old Corvette the whole time I've known him, and I had to promise that he'd have one someday (before he was 30) before we could get married.
Here are some of the pictures we have so far. We have much work to do before it is restored to all its original glory. I'm told that we will be doing a full, body-off restoration. But all that will happen in due time. For now, we have just a little work to do in order to get it running (safely) and out on the road for the occasional Sunday drive. Perhaps part of that will happen this weekend.

The Best Labor Day Weekend

Well it's Tuesday (but it feels like Monday), and the summer has unofficially come to a close. We celebrated the last weekend of summer in the best way possilble... just hanging around the house together. Friday night at 8:00 Brian returned from Baton Rouge for the last time. I can't tell you what a relief it is that he is now at home and working one last week before beginning his new job at the Corps of Engineers. We really enjoyed spending a weekend together without the thought of having to say goodbye again in a few days. Saturday we did a little grocery shopping, ate some BBQ for lunch, then grilled a steak to celebrate while we watched Auburn's first football game of the season. Auburn looked a little rough around the edges but overall made a good first impression under the new head coach. Sunday we drove to Birmingham to spend a couple hours with Brian's dad and stepmom and to pickup Brian's freshly painted Jeep. By Monday, with a shiny, like new Jeep sitting in the garage, we couldn't help but spend a little time playing with it. We cleaned the floors, painted some small parts that went in the engine well, put on headlights, and began the process of reassembling the whole thing. If things go well, we hope to have it back together before January. Then, last night, we did something that we hadn't had the opportunity to do in a long while - we got a pizza, rented a movie and just cuddled on the couch. It was absolutely wonderful!!! I can't wait to do it all again next weekend.
