19 Week Status Update

I'm updating a day early this week because I've got a super busy day tomorrow and I'm not sure I'll have time to update later this week.  Things have been very busy at work and at home this week.  Sunday Brian started painting the crib and dresser we have for the nursery.  I'll post pictures of how it looks so far on the nursery page as soon as I can.  Hopefully, I can even find some pictures of how it looked before we started.

How Big is Baby: The size of a mango.

Total Weight Gain: Down a little from last week (fluctuating I guess).  10 lbs total as of this morning.

Maternity Clothes: Weekend wear consists pretty much entirely of maternity shorts and capris except for one pair of denim walmart capris that always fit big in the waist.  For work wear, I'm in regular pants, unbuttoned with a belly band.  We're going to Disney next week, so I bought a maternity bathing suit, but I don't have a big enough belly for it to fit yet... guess I'm going to have to try and find a regular bathing suit or borrow one.

Stretch Marks: not yet

Sleep: That varies on a night by night and sometimes hour by hour basis. Some nights I sleep great and really don't wake up. Other nights I'm up every hour. I believe my body is slowly preparing me for midnight feedings.

Best Moment this Week: Brian came home after 2 weeks of being away for work.  It's nice to have some company around the house again.

Worst Moment this Week: Realizing that the skunk I thought I smelled on the farm across the road was actually a dead one in my yard.... YUCK!

Food Cravings: Not really any cravings this week.  I've begun to experiance a little heart burn after eating lately, so I'm trying to adjust to 5-6 smaller meals a day.  Thus far, I'm not doing well at getting those in and am really still eating 3 regular meals.  Overall, food is kind of painful right now.

Gender: This Friday is the day (hopefully!).  I'm praying that Bean will cooperate and show us the goods when we go for the ultrasound Friday afternoon.

Labor Signs: too soon for those.

Belly Button: still there

What I miss: I don't really know this week. I guess it would be nice to be able to go ahead and paint the nursery furniture myself. Normally I would just jump in and do it without Brian. Unfortunately I have to wait for him to do it now.

What I'm looking forward to: 3 days - Discoving whether this is a boy or a girl, 4 days - Vacation, Someday - Looking like I'm pregnant and not like I have a beer gut.

Weekly Wisdom: This is really happening... not sure if that is the best thing ever or the scariest thing ever, but it's definately happening.  Life will never be the same.

Milestones: 147 days left and coming up on half way there.  Maybe soon I'll feel some movement and have something better to report.

Baby's now the size of a mango!  (This strange fruit is confusing me.)

Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil, and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.

18 Week Status Update

The last week or so has flown by.  Brian's been TDY (out of town on business) for almost 2 weeks now and I've been busy trying to keep the house reasonably clean and finishing up sanding the nursery furniture.  We're also doing the last bit of planning for our Disney vacation in 10 days.  With so much going on and it only looking to get busier, I have no doubt that it will be November before we know it.

How Big is Baby: The size of sweet potato.

Total Weight Gain: This morning it had really shot up... look like 11 lbs but I do tend to fluctuate.  It seems very weird to me that this kid still doesn't weight a half pound but I'm up like 11.  How is that fair?

Maternity Clothes: My weekend shorts and pants are maternity wear (mostly because I didn't have any weekend clothes that really fit before pregnancy).  As for the work clothes, I'm still wearing my regular pants and tops at the moment.  Granted, today my pants are fully unbuttoned and I've added a "belly band" to smooth out the lines.

Stretch Marks: not yet

Sleep: That varies on a night by night and sometimes hour by hour basis.  Some nights I sleep great and really don't wake up.  Other nights I'm up every hour.  I believe my body is slowly preparing me for midnight feedings.

Best Moment this Week: Having fun with the nieces and nephews at our slip-n-slide party.  Those sweet little ones definately get me excited about having a baby around full time.

Worst Moment this Week: Pretty much every day about 2pm.  You've seen the commercials about the 3:00 slump... well mine comes an hour early.  It's all I can do to stay awake and keep my head from hitting my desk.  Hopefully this will end quickly.

Food Cravings: Mozzarella Sticks and a Green Apple Slush from Sonic.  Last Friday night we drove to Ardmore to buy Brian some supper (I'd had a late lunch) and I suddendly just had to run by Sonic. Then Saturday after grocery shopping, Brian had a craving for a Green Apple Slush and Mozzarella Sticks. Ha!

Gender: Get those guesses in soon.  We find out in just 9 days.

What I'm looking forward to: 9 days - Discoving whether this is a boy or a girl, 10 days - Vacation, Someday - Looking like I'm pregnant and not like I have a beer gut.

Weekly Wisdom: Courtesy of my hubby last night... I shouldn't have to give up things I love just because we have a baby.  So glad to know I have a partner in this who is willing to share in the parenting duties so that we can both have a little fun too.

Milestones: 154 days left... Maybe soon I'll feel some movement and have something better to report.

Baby's now the size of a sweet potato!

Baby's become amazingly mobile (compared to you, at least), passing the hours yawning, hiccupping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking, and swallowing. And baby is finally big enough that you'll soon be able to feel her movements.

Redneck Engin-uity

What happens when you have not one but two redneck engineers build your homemade slip-n-slide???  You get the wildest, craziest, most incredible slip-n-slide party ever!

Since we live out in the boonies, there is nothing close to do on a really hot summer afternoon.  So sometimes we just have to create our own fun.  Yesterday we re-created our 4th of July slip-n-slide party with a slight improvement.  This time Brian was able to join us and he took things to a whole new level by adding the splash down pit to our slip-n-slide. It was so much fun even the adults (with a little encouragement) had to get in on the action.

If you want to see all the pictures, go here.

17 Weeks --- How did we get here already?

Where does the time go??? We've reached the 17 week mark and I can't believe how quickly things are moving.  With everything that it going to be happening over the next few months, I'm certain January will arive before we know it.  I just hope I'm ready.

How Big is Baby: The size of an onion... I'm going to have to go home and pull one out to take a look.

Total Weight Gain: 8 lbs.

Maternity Clothes: I bought my first maternity clothes last weekend and even broke down and work a pair of the shorts I got last weekend.  I'll say I'm not completely thrilled with the cut of the shorts, but at least they're comfy.  As far as work goes, I'm still in regular clothes, though I'm still not buttoning that top button.

Stretch Marks: not yet

Sleep: What's that??? Between general discomfort and arriving home Monday night to find the AC broken I haven't slept in days.  Hopefully, I'll manage to get some rest the end of the week and over the weekend.

Best Moment this Week: I did some things to prepare for Bean... I made a crib sheet and I started sanding the crib to prepare for paint.

Worst Moment this Week:  The hormones have me hot anyway, but hormones plus no AC plus trying to sleep in a 75 degree house equals a restless night.

Food Cravings: None really this week... when I was maternity shopping though I did have to make a stop in at the Cinnibun store and pick up a snack.  It just smelled so heavenly and then tasted even better.

Gender: 2 more weeks before we know that.

Labor Signs: too soon for those.

Belly Button: still there

What I miss: Being able to get on the treadmill and run without being completely winded.  I just can't seem to go like I used to... I wonder if that is really due to the pregnancy or if it is just because I'm getting fat and lazy???

What I'm looking forward to: Vacation... I just hope that it is an actual vacation and not one of those where you come back to the office and are bombarded with a million things to do.  That kind of spoils the fun of vacations.

Weekly Wisdom: I don't know how wise it is, but I've discovered that I've got to get moving on all these projects.  I feel like my time is already gone.

Milestones: Hmmmm... can't think of any this week.  I'll have to work on it for next week.

Baby's now the size of an onion!

Baby's skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. His umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and those little fingers and toes now feature one-of-a-kind prints.

Cribs, Crafts, and Maternity Clothes

This has been a very busy weekend for me... I feel like I've been going, going, going.  Friday after work I broke down and went to look for maternity clothes.  I still don't really need them, but with our Disney vacation just 3 weeks away, I wanted to go ahead and get some things so that I'm not running around at the last minute trying to put together a full maternity wardrobe for the trip.  I did pretty well and even lucked into some end of the summer season sales.  I got 3 pair of shorts, a pair of capris pants, 3 casual tops, a dress top, and a nice cardigan for just over $100.  I also got online when I got home and bought a few things off the internet after seeing the extremely limited in-store selection.  After my shopping trip I headed home to get a start on my housework (after the last 2 weeks our house was a disaster).

Then Saturday, I had to get up and do some more housework while I waited on the grass to dry enough for me to cut it.  I managed to get the grass cut and get in and shower before lunch.  After lunch I went into town to do my grocery shopping and I stopped in at Sir's Fabrics to see if I saw any fabrics I couldn't live without for the nursery.  I didn't find much, but I did find enough of a cool orange fabric to make a fitted sheet for Bean and I found some really neat fabric that looked kind of like Denim to make a fitted sheet for our new niece (due in November), currently being called Tater.  After I got home, I did some more cleaning (yes it was that bad) then sat down with the sewing machine to try my hand at making some fitted sheets.  The first one took 3 hours, but the second only took an hour.  So I went to bed very pleased with myself for the day.

Sunday I got up and did some more cleaning (I told you it was bad!). Once I was content that the house was clean enough (except for the kitchen which I did while I cooked supper), I grabbed a piece of our crib and went outside to start sanding.  My goal is to have the crib and the dresser ready for Brian to paint when he finishes up his two business trips over the next two weeks.

16 Weeks - Moving Right Along

We've reached the 4 month mark... yikes! At our ultrasound last week we could actually see Bean and make out heads, hands, and even tiny little fingers.  Now here we are at the 16 week mark and time seems to be passing more and more rapidly every day.  At our next appointment we'll even learn if we're having a he-Bean or a she-Bean. Anyway...here's what's going on at 16 weeks.

How Big is Baby: The size of an avacado.... again with strange fruits... I always think of those as much smaller than a naval orange... oh well.

Total Weight Gain: Weighed again this morning and measured in right at 6 lbs.  So happy for that.  It's been a busy week with lots of fast food.

Maternity Clothes: I'm still in my regular clothes at the moment.  Though I no longer wear my work pants fully buttoned.  After a photo or two this weekend, I'm feeling like it won't be long before I wake up one morning with a huge belly and nothing at all that will fit.

Stretch Marks: not yet

Sleep: The last couple of nights sleep has been overrated.  Perhaps my mind is too active or our lives the last couple of weeks has been too active.  In any event, I'm looking forward to catching up some this weekend.

Best Moment this Week: We got to share in the wedding festivities of Brian's brother, Wes, and his new bride, Melissa.  Congrats to the both of them.
Worst Moment this Week: We lost a family member... funerals are never easy or good.

Food Cravings: We've been so busy that I haven't had time for a craving. Plus with all the traveling and running around we've been doing, we ate mostly fast food.  Now everything sounds yucky.
Gender: Remains unknown at the moment. We will know in just 3 weeks though so that's exciting.

Labor Signs: too soon for those.

Belly Button: still there

What I miss: Having a closet full of clothes that fit. I'm down to a very few items that will work and those are mostly work clothes so I have almost nothing to wear when I need to be a little dressy and absolutely nothing to wear on weekends.

What I'm looking forward to: 3 weeks from now... we'll find out whether this is a boy or girl then we're off to Disney for a well deserved vacation.

Weekly Wisdom: Courtesy of Aunt Debbie... we may not be completely crazy over this child at the moment (we are no doubt excited) and it might not even happen the first time we hold him/her... but after about a week we won't know how we ever lived without him/her.  I personally felt much better after she told me this because I thought I was the only expectant mommie in the world who was feeling kind of blah about the whole thing.  I'm suffieiently excited, but I wouldn't say that I'm totally in love with my baby at this point.  I've occasionally wondered if that meant I wasn't going to be a good mom.  I was so glad to hear that she had the same fears with her first pregnancy and that it was perfectly normal.

Milestones: Holy cow we've reached 4 months!!!

Baby's now the size of an avocado!

Watch what you say...tiny bones forming in baby's ears mean she can now pick up your voice. A few more minuscule changes: Eyebrows, lashes, and hair are starting to fill in, and taste buds are forming.

15 Week Checkup and Ultrasound Pics!!!

Today we had another doctor's appointment and ultrasound.  This was by far the neatest one yet.  We were able to hear a heartbeat for the first time and we got to see our little Bean.  We also left with 7 ultrasound pictures which we immediately went to Walmart and copied for the family.

The appointment went really well.  Everything looks great and Bean is measuring out right on track.  I had a physical (not so fun) too. The doc said everything looked great and checked out well.  I even got complemented for drinking ample ammounts of water (baby likes this).  The ultrasound was incredible.  We could see fingers, arms, legs, the spine, eyes, and all kinds of things.  We even got to hear a heartbeat.  The doctor tried to get an early estimate of gender, but Bean didn't want to cooperate.  Everytime she would get Bean in position to take a look, he/she would flip over.  I was shocked at how much he/she was moving around in there.

I've posted one of the ultrasound pictures below.  When we were in the office the doctor was talking about seeing eyes, but we totally weren't seeing it with things moving so fast.  When we left the office, we went to Walmart and made some copies of the ultrasound pics so that we could share with family this weekend.  As we were driving to work I was looking at the picture and I managed to see the eyes and mouth.  We were shocked when we finally saw it.  Anyway, here it is... the circle on the left is the head with the eyes and mouth.  The circle on the right is the torso, legs, etc.

So World... say hello to Bean.

15 Week Status Update - Growing Fast

How Big is Baby: The size of a naval orange.  That's getting bigger.

Total Weight Gain: I'm thinking 6 or 7 lbs.  I forgot to weigh before eating this morning, so I'm having trouble making a comparison.

Maternity Clothes: Still a no at the moment, but I'm thinking it won't be much longer before those regular pants don't fit.  P.S. Thank God for my stretchy Gaucho Pants!

Stretch Marks: not yet

Sleep: Slept pretty good last night.  Some nights it's not so great, but most of the time I sleep soundly.

Best Moment this Week:  We heard Bean's heartbeat on the ultrasound today!!!

Worst Moment this Week:  Overall a good week.  I have no complaints.

Food Cravings:  I've been craving cinnamon rolls! I may have to buy some this weekend.

Gender: ???? Guesses are still welcome. I have, however, been informed to stop saying that Brian and I both think it may be a girl. Though, in my defense, he did say that once. Anyway, I'm feeling girl and Brian is hoping boy (because he doesn't want to pay for a wedding). Did I get it right this time, Dear?

Labor Signs: too soon for those.

Belly Button: present.

What I miss: Since tomorrow night is Wes and Mellissa's rehersal dinner and there are going to be margaritas, tomorrow I'll be missing margaritas.

What I'm looking forward to: One month today we'll know if we're having a she bean or a he bean.  So excited to have this scheduled.

Weekly Wisdom: Baby's rarely cooperate when you want them to... see our ultrasound story.

Milestones: We had another ultrasound today.  So neat to hear a heartbeat and see all the movement.

Baby's now the size of a naval orange!

Continuing the march toward normal proportions, baby's legs now out-measure his arms. And, finally, all four limbs have functional joints. Your fetus is squirming and wiggling like crazy down in the womb, though you probably can't feel the movements just yet.
