27 Week Status Update

How Big is Baby: Still the size of an Eggplant. It seems to me that Bean's growth is slowing down, but my belly is getting bigger by the minute... how is that possible?

Total Weight Gain: Just about 20 lbs this morning.  Yay... that's down a pound from last week.  Hoping things will hold steady here for another week or so.

Maternity Clothes: I'm still squeezing into my regular work pants unbuttoned with a belly band.  Here's hoping that those will last until I have time and money to get some more pants.

Stretch Marks: Still a no so far... I'm still buttering up regularly and drinking lots of water.

Sleep: Sometimes pretty good, sometimes pretty bad.  I'm still waking regularly to use the potty.

Best Moment this Week:  We finished the crib set!  It's great to have that out of the way.  Now if the cleaning fairy would just show up and make my house all spic and span things would be perfect.

Worst Moment this Week: Overall it's been a pretty good week.  Things at work have been kind of busy and a little stressful, but at least it's job security.

Food Cravings: Still no cravings... but with Halloween coming up I could go for some sweets... like Cowboy Cookies or Blondies!

Gender: It's a boy!  Now if he just had a name.

Labor Signs: too soon for those.

Belly Button: It is still there and no one is happier about that than Brian.  If/When it goes away he may freak on me a bit because he checks it regularly.

What I miss: Hmmmm... can't think of much right now.

What I'm looking forward to: Getting the house cleaned up a little more or at all.

Weekly Wisdom: Patience will pay off.  We worked long and hard on the crib set and really weren't sure what we were doing most of the time, but with patience we got things finished up and it looks great.

Milestones: Just 91 days left. That is definately at the 3 month to go mark.  Hello there 3rd Trimester.

Baby's now the size of an eggplant!

Baby's lungs are going through some major developments these days, which (combined with the opening of previously plugged nostrils) means he's now able to practice inhaling and exhaling. The lack of air in your womb means every "breath" is filled with amniotic fluid, but hey -- it's progress.

Crib Set Progress

Last night after work, I finished up the crib skirt and declared the majority of our crib set complete!  We still need a blanket, but since Bean won't be using that for quite a while, that can wait until I've finished some other things up first (like getting the rest of the junk out of the nursery).

I owe a great deal of thanks to my wonderful hubby for being so patient and for doing a large part of the sewing.  I'm still very new to the whole sewing thing, and he can make much straighter seams, so he volunteered to do the detail work if I got things cut out and pinned and ready.

Remember that I'm super picky and couldn't find a thing for sale that I liked. So I got online and found a custom crib designer that let me play with fabrics and colors.  I could have ordered a custom set from the website, but I'm too cheap to pay $400 + for a crib set, but I could order the fabrics and make it myself.

Thanks to Google and some great directions online, we were able to make the whole set ourselves for about the same cost as a regular crib set.  Only I think Bean's set is waaaaay cuter than most of the stuff you can find in the stores. Plus, no one else will have the same set.

This was my inspiration custom design I created online.

Our finished homemade crib set! The pic is dark because it was late when I finished,
but I'll get a better picture sometime soon (like when I finally get the nursery cleaned up).

Updates to other Pages!!!

Yes I did update to the 26 Week Status today, but I also made some updates to the Nursery Page and the Baby Page this morning.  You can get to those from the links at the top of the blog.  Go ahead and check those out to get a look at nursery plans, what all is going on right now, and other fun tidbits.

26 Week Status Update

How Big is Baby: Still the size of an Eggplant. It seems to me that Bean's growth is slowing down, but my belly is getting bigger by the minute... how is that possible?

Total Weight Gain: 21 lbs as of this morning.  With 14 weeks to go still I may have to stop counting soon or risk a nervous breakdown.

Maternity Clothes: Didn't have any luck finding my size jeans at the Old Navy in Birmingham so I'll just have to order online.

Stretch Marks: Still not yet... still hoping the cocoa butter holds up.

Sleep: This week I'm really not sleeping at all. I'm up running to the potty every 1-2 hours which makes for a tough time getting any good rest.

Best Moment this Week: Brian got kicked in the chin! Brian was laying with his head on my belly and got a nice swift kick right to the chin.  Keep it up, son.  It's going to take both of us to keep Daddy in line. Plus, our dots fabric came in the mail on Monday.

Worst Moment this Week: Not terrible, but we realized that fall had arrived and we'd be having our first frost this weekend.  That means that after 10 hour days at work this week we get to run to Joey's house to try and get everything in the greenhouse.  Every year I promise myself that we won't wait until the last minute to do this chore and somehow it always seems to get put off until the first frost is predicted.

Food Cravings: No real cravings at the moment... either I'm getting what I need or just too busy to bother with wanting food.

Gender: It's a boy!

Labor Signs: too soon for those.

Belly Button: still there

What I miss: Feeling like I'm in reasonably decent shape.  Bean's constant growing has left me with absolutely no lung capacity.  My muscles can keep up with the walks before and after football games but my lungs have other ideas.

What I'm looking forward to: Friday. I've decided to take the day off work and get some things done around the house. I hope that includes doing some more cleaning for the nursery, getting the rest of the bumper material cut out, and making a second crib sheet.  I probably won't accomplish all of it, but it's nice to dream.

Weekly Wisdom: I'm not very wise this week... can't think of a thing for this question today.

Milestones: Less than 100 days to go.  Not sure if that is good or bad at this point, but it's definately a milestone.
Baby's now the size of an eggplant!

He's still growing in the 13.6- to 14.8-inch and 1.5- to 2.5-pound range, and developing his senses, features and talents!

25 Week Update

This week was a busy one to say the least.  We had lots going at work, a holiday weekend, and a road trip to watch Auburn play in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  Even though the team lost (lost doesn't even begin to cover how bad it was), we had a great road trip and lots of fun.  I even got to try my hand at mountain climbing while pregnant... didn't work out too well.  When we got home on Sunday, we had an extra day before going back to work, and made some progress on the nursery.  Anyway, here is this week's update.  I'm hoping to post about our Arkansas trip soon, but things are busy, so this will have to do for now.

How Big is Baby: The size of an Eggplant.  While I have some vauge idea of what this is, it gives me no real perspective.  Couldn't they have come up with something cuter for comparison? I mean, who even likes eggplant?

Total Weight Gain: Up to 19 lbs this morning... yay for the weight gain coming in spurts and not just steadily increasing like crazy.

Maternity Clothes: Have some, but definately not enough to wear those exclusively. I picked up another pair of jeans at Burlington for cheap to help me get through a long weekend away from home and this weekend I have a trip by an Old Navy that carries maternity clothes in store planned! Yay for going through Birmingham to get to Auburn.

Stretch Marks: Still not yet... Here's hoping the cocoa butter holds up.

Sleep: I'm sleeping pretty soundly the last couple of weeks except for the fact that I'm up for a potty break every hour or so.

Best Moment this Week: Friday night as we were settling into bed, Brian got to feel Bean kick.  He was a little freaked out, but super excited.  Every night since he's asked if Bean's kicking again hoping to get another feel. So far, no more luck.

Worst Moment this Week: Still...anything related to work... I'm burned out and stressed out. I'd way rather be home preparing for Bean's arrival at the moment. I have around 1 month before the Thanksgiving/Christmas stretch of holidays and time off arrives. Surely I can survive another month.

Food Cravings: The cravings have subsided for the most part.  This weekend we did go by Sonic and indulge in a mozzarella stick and green apple slush, but that wasn't so much craving as opportunity.

Gender: It's a boy!

Labor Signs: too soon for those.

Belly Button: still there

What I miss: Wine... when I get stressed at work, it always seems to help to come home and have a glass of wine.  Unfortunately, I can't unwind that way at the moment.  I'll figure something else out.

What I'm looking forward to: Auburn plays Florida this weekend and I'm hoping to get more progress made on the nursery too.

Weekly Wisdom: 6 months pregnant and mountain climbing should not be done together.  Learned that one this weekend at the University of Arkansas.  I thought Arkansas was a flat state... apparently they just collected all their hills in one town.

Milestones: Brian got to feel the little big kicks and this week we'll pass the 100 days to go mark!

Baby's now the size of an eggplant!

That oh-so-handy sense of equilibrium is kicking in, and baby's learning to distinguish right side up from upside down.

Ultrasound Pics and Fabric Shopping

Yesterday was our monthly OB visit.  It turned out that Brian had a doctor's appointment scheduled for the same time, so his mom, Debra, came up to keep me company at my doctor's visit and to get a look at her grandson on the ultrasound machine.  Granny, Debra's mom, decided to tag along on the trip as well, so we made a day of it and after the doctor's appointments were finished we headed over to Sirs to do some fabric shopping.

We got to Sirs just as they were opening for the day and I headed straight to the scrap tables.  I found some wonderful material for the bumper pads for just $3 and $4 a yard and Granny found some fabric to use for some quilts she is making.  Then we headed out to Monk's Market to pick up some fresh veggies, a giant pumpkin for Brian, and a couple of Christmas gifts (yes, I'm already trying to Christmas shop).  Then we ate at one of my favorite lunch spots, O'Houlihans, and headed back home.

When Mom and Granny left to head back to Birmingham, Brian and I decided to make a quick run to Gander Mountain to buy his birthday gift.  When we got home, he was super wonderful and put the last coat of paint on the nursery furniture before studying for his PE exam.  All in all, it was a great day.  I'm so glad we played hooky from work and kept the whole day to ourselves.

I'm also super excited that I've begun to get material to make the bumper pads.  I still have to order my primary material off the internet as well as some foam padding.  But I have enough right now, that I can get started cutting things out and making piping in the meantime.  Wish me luck on my sewing adventure.

24 Week Update

How Big is Baby: The size of a papaya. I still need to go by Publix and figure out what that is!

Total Weight Gain: Holding steady at 18 lbs.  Whew! I'm so glad that I didn't weigh heavier this morning.
Maternity Clothes: Have some, but definately not enough to wear those exclusively.  Getting more is definately on my list.

Stretch Marks: Still not yet... Here's hoping the cocoa butter holds up.

Sleep: Sometimes yes, sometimes no.  I think it depends on how stressed I am.

Best Moment this Week: Was joined by my fantastic mother-in-law at the doctor yesterday.  I'm so glad she agreed to tag along to see an ultrasound.  They've changed alot in the last 25 years, so I'm glad she came to see the newer technology and get a peak at Bean.

Worst Moment this Week: Anything related to work... I'm burned out and stressed out.  I'd way rather be home preparing for Bean's arrival at the moment.  I'm hoping the long weekend will help me to relax a little and recharge.  I have around 1 month before the Thanksgiving/Christmas stretch of holidays and time off arrives.  Surely I can survive another month.

Food Cravings: The cravings have subsided.  Though I am very grateful to Granny Reba for bringing me some of her homemade fried apple pies.  I've made them before, but no matter how hard I try I can't do it like she does.  Though I recently realized that a square cast iron skillet can make a big difference.

Gender: It's a boy!

Labor Signs: too soon for those.

Belly Button: still there

What I miss: Not having my bathroom trips dictated by someone else.  Bean has been shaking his groove thing all over my bladder and I'm constantly in need of a restroom.

What I'm looking forward to: A long weekend out of the office and watching Auburn football.

Weekly Wisdom: Don't wait for things to happen, make them happen.

Milestones: Still waiting on Brian to feel a kick. They feel so big to me that I'm shocked when he can't feel them. Soon maybe.

Baby's now the size of a papaya!

Baby's skin is becoming more opaque as the fat starts to pack on. And, thanks to the formation of small capillaries, her newly thick skin is taking on a fresh pink glow.
